Are Catalogues Still Relevant to Households?

In this digital world, where email and social media marketing are widely popular, the physical catalogue is still holding its place. Although there is a decrease in letterbox catalogues as businesses are turning their catalogue digital, consumers are surprisingly enthusiastic about receiving them still in the letterbox.

While many brands are replacing their print catalogues with the online version, print catalogues have their weightage. People of all ages still love to receive a catalogue. They feel the catalogue more trustworthy and want to read magazine-like catalogues as it keeps them hooked and takes them on a journey or even an adventure through the stories and images.

Moreover, researches are also showing that physical catalogues are still highly relevant. The recent study into Australia’s catalogue industry is a prime example as it depicts that households are still pretty much interested in receiving letterbox catalogues. The report further suggests that there are nearly 13.5 million catalogue readers in Australia, and out of 13.5 around 31% of Australian catalogue readers read catalogue cover-to-cover. Moreover, they share hard copies catalogues with family, friends, and neighbors, and due to that, the numbers of catalogue readers are likely to increase in the coming years.

(After analyzing the catalogue readers by generation, they found out that Millennials are the largest readers of catalogues numbering over 3.2 million).

The study also highlighted that catalogue is playing a salient role in influencing people’s decision-making. Even in 2021, catalogues are endorsing people to buy the products, and around 70% of Australia’s 13.4 million catalogue readers think that catalogues are a helpful shopping tool.

Another Survey from a global consulting firm – Kurt Salmon, shed light on how people still love reading them and how it influences their purchasing decisions. According to its report, 86% of women in the age range of 18-30 buy an item after seeing it in a catalogue. And Not only this, 31% of shoppers look through a catalogue even when they complete their purchase online, and 53% of 13.4 find catalogues more useful than other forms of advertising. And it shows that people prefer physical catalogues despite the proliferation of digital media.

Although it’s hard to believe that the mail-order catalogue that was distributed somewhat 175 years ago is still effective. But it is what is. Despite all the digitalization, households still want to receive catalogues in the letterbox, and this trend is increasing rapidly.
